I say Nothing!

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
~R Frost

I bought the Nothingphone. In a world where every smartphone looks like a twin of the previous one, this is not just a phone choice—it’s a manifesto against the blandness flooding the technology and design markets. Looking at the transparent casing, I see more than just electronics—I see the courage to be different, defiance against the conformity that has overtaken contemporary design.

This device reminds me of a time when design was a manifesto, when designers boldly expressed their visions, unafraid of controversy. I think of Dieter Rams and his revolutionary approach to designing products. It’s like a breath of fresh air.
Choosing Nothing, I say "no" to mindlessly following the herd. I say "yes" to design with character, which dares to provoke and make you think. It’s like choosing between a mass-produced product and a work of art—maybe not everyone will understand, but those who do will choose it consciously.

Nothing doesn’t treat me like a random consumer, hungry for the next unnecessary feature. Instead, it offers honesty and transparency—both literally and figuratively. It’s like peeking behind the scenes of the everyday spectacle, as Goffman described in "The Presentation of..." It reveals the mechanisms we usually hide, forcing reflection on what really matters in tech.

So why do I say Nothing? I’m tired of the shallowness and lack of courage in design. Because I believe design should provoke, make you think, not just stroke the user’s ego. I appreciate the decision not to appeal to everyone—in fact, I’m excited by the notion that this product won’t please many.

In a world where most follow beaten paths, it takes courage to go your own way. Nothing gives me that possibility, reminding me that in design, as in life, it’s sometimes worth the risk. Innovation is born from the courage to be different, from the awareness of lurking mistakes, from the brink of failure.

A dialogue with technology, not blind subordination to it. I want strong, conscious design. This time, Nothing is far more than nothing.
